The Nxled Chameleons have made key roster moves ahead of the 2025 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, officially signing opposite spiker Jovelyn Fernandez and libero Janel Delerio, the team announced on Thursday.
The arrivals of Fernandez and Delerio come on the heels of the team’s separation from longtime veterans Bang Pineda and Ivy Perez, signaling a changing of the guard for a squad eager to build a new identity.
Fernandez, 24, makes the jump to Nxled following a challenging stint with the Cignal HD Spikers, where she saw limited action across two seasons and four conferences. Despite her accolades, including a UAAP Best Opposite Spiker award, Fernandez struggled to break into Cignal’s starting unit, often buried in the depth chart behind veterans Jovelyn Gonzaga and Chin Basas, as well as import MJ Perez.
Even after Ces Molina’s mid-season departure in the 2024–25 All-Filipino Conference, Fernandez’s playing time remained scarce, with rookies and returnees like Ishie Lalongisip, Judith Abil, and Vanie Gandler taking center stage. However, the La Salle-Dasmariñas product made the most of her limited opportunities, finally earning starting roles in the HD Spikers’ two play-in games, where she averaged 7.5 points per match despite both outings ending in losses.
Now wearing Chameleon green, Fernandez is poised for a breakout as she joins a team actively searching for scoring options. Nxled has struggled to generate consistent offense in recent conferences and is hoping Fernandez’s firepower can help turn the tide.
The move also sets up a reunion with former teammate Lycha Ebon, with whom Fernandez is expected to compete for minutes at the opposite position.
On the defensive end, Nxled adds much-needed experience with the acquisition of libero Janel Delerio. The former University of Santo Tomas Tigress spent the past two seasons with Farm Fresh, initially serving as the team’s starting libero before seeing her minutes dwindle following the arrival of veteran Jheck Dionela.
Despite the shift in role, Delerio remained a steady presence on the floor. She posted solid numbers in the most recent All-Filipino Conference, averaging 2.82 digs per set—a testament to her hustle and court awareness.
With the Chameleons seeking to shore up their floor defense and transition game, Delerio’s arrival is expected to provide stability in the back row and leadership for Nxled’s young core.
