Petro Gazz, PLDT collide in key showdown

Petro Gazz and PLDT square off in a pivotal match on Tuesday, with both teams aiming to solidify their standings before the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino preliminaries take a break for the holidays.

Currently tied at 3-1, the Angels and High Speed Hitters will battle for momentum and a stronger record at the Philsports Arena in Pasig.

Petro Gazz enters the 4 p.m. match on a high note after a convincing shutout victory over Akari, while PLDT seeks to recover from a tough four-set loss to Chery Tiggo that snapped its early three-game winning streak.

The Angels will lean on Brooke Van Sickle and their seasoned local players, including Aiza Pontillas, Remy Palma, Jonah Sabete and the resurgent Myla Pablo, while PLDT counters with Savi Davison and a strong supporting cast, led by Erika Santos. Fiola Ceballos and middles Dell Palomata and Majoy Baron.

In the 6:30 p.m. main game, Chery Tiggo hopes to extend its momentum against Akari, which is looking to halt a three-game skid. Despite their strong start, the Chargers struggled against top-tier teams, suffering consecutive shutout losses.

The league, organized by Sports Vision and supported by sponsors like Arena Plus, Watsons, and Mikasa, will pause for the holidays after this week. Action will resume on Jan. 18 with exciting matchups including Farm Fresh vs. Nxled and ZUS Coffee vs. Choco Mucho.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Creamline faces ZUS Coffee, while Choco Mucho clashes with Farm Fresh on Thursday. On Saturday, Galeries Tower will square off against Chery Tiggo, and Cignal puts its perfect 4-0 record on the line against Petro Gazz in what promises to be a thrilling final playdate for the 2024 preliminaries.

Fans can also look forward to Thursday’s Creamline vs. ZUS Coffee clash and Saturday’s Petro Gazz vs. Cignal showdown.
